Impractically Practical: Are Scientists Mystics?

We can think of science and contemplative practices such as meditation as sitting at opposite poles. One hard and objective, the other soft and subjective. Yet both are eminently grounded in the here and now, what is right in front of them. What — if anything — might mystics and monks have to offer scientists? What — if anything — might scientists have to offer them in return? What common ground is there between science and faith? What perspectives might one have that would enrich the other approach?
