Matthew Sayer Completes Eagle Scout Project at TPUUF

Matthew Sayer Completes Eagle Scout Project at TPUUF
August 8, 2021

Over the course of the past 17 months, TPUUF lost five members to the COVID-19 pandemic. Other members were lost to other illnesses or age, and we werenot able gather and honor them and mourn as we otherwise might have.  Matthew Sayer, son of John and Gail Sayer who have been active members and trustees of our congregation for years, came up with a proposal for an Eagle Scout project to honor TPUUF members who passed away over the past months with a memorial walk, trail and reflection area in the woods behind our building.

The proposal was accepted by our Board of Trustees and by the Boy Scouts ofAmerica, and over the course of several months, Matt worked diligently to gather the materials, build benches and construct a beautiful, tranquil place of remembrance.

The memorial walk, trail and reflection area was dedicated in a ceremony held outside on June 12 and attended by Matt’s family, members of TPUUF, and
State Senator Katie Muth.

Matthew completed his Board of Review and has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.  A Court of Honor ceremony will be held this fall to formally award the Eagle Scout rank insignia and other awards.

TPUUF thanks Matthew Sayer and his family and friends who made this project a reality and a lasting memorial to the members we lost.
