Grif Bates, retired M.D. and artist, will discuss similarities and differences between spirit and soul, using some of his own artwork as a jumping off point. Grif began painting in the summer of 1957, just before he began medical school. Renowned Philadelphia artist Paul Gorka was one of his teachers at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He balanced art and medicine until he retired from medicine in 1998. Since then, he has been able to paint full time. He has exhibited widely in Pennsylvania, Vermont, New York and Maryland, including many one-person shows.
