Position Available: Director of Lifespan Faith Development

Reports to:  Board of Trustees

The Thomas Paine Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (TPUUF) is seeking a half-time Director of Lifespan Faith Development (DLFD). The successful candidate will be a dynamic, well-organized, self-motivated, enthusiastic, caring and innovative person, excited to work collaboratively with our Board, Minister, Faith Development Committee and congregation to advance the vision of a growing, engaged and educated faith community.

Summary of Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for liberal religion and Unitarian Universalism
  • Background in education, human growth and development, and/or religion
  • Experience with children and knowledge of stages of human development
  • Knowledge of current PA state requirements for classroom volunteers and paid staff
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
  • Strong organizational skills and propensity for organized thought and planning
  • Ability to work collaboratively and with minimal direction
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with technology including social media a plus

Education Level and Experience:  A Bachelor’s degree with course work in religious studies or education preferred.  UUA credentialing preferred (or willingness to pursue).  Previous experience as an educator, religious educator or educational leader is preferred.

Time Requirements:

  • Half-time position (Average of 20 hours per week)
  • Required to work most Sundays
  • Attendance at meetings or events some evenings, including regular monthly meetings of the Faith Development Committee
  • Occasional participation in events outside of the regional area

Compensation:  Salary and benefits commensurate with UUA guidelines

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Follow the Liberal Religious Educators Code of Professional Practice, and uphold the vision and mission of TPUUF
  • Collaborate with the Faith Development Committee to
    • Develop, implement, and oversee existing and new Lifespan Faith Development programming, including reviewing and evaluating curricula.
    • Prepare and staff weekly Children’s’ Faith Development (CFD) classes
    • Develop and implement a youth program as children age out of CFD
  • Recruit, train, and support classroom volunteers
  • Manage the Nursery, including supervision of paid childcare provider.
  • Work with existing TPUUF committees to plan Multi-Generational Services, Community Service/Social Action opportunities, and special events.
  • Serve as a resource to TPUUF committees/volunteers on activities to promote Adult Faith Development
  • Manage administrative tasks including developing and managing the FD budget and maintaining program enrollment records
  • Provide regular communications to the congregation (monthly board report, periodic parent emails, monthly newsletter articles, etc)
  • Network with others in the broader UU community and in the local religious community through communication and attendance at events
