Share the Plate – March 2016 – Norristown LGBT QMUNITY CENTER

This Month’s Sharing the Plate recipient will be the LGBT QMUNITY CENTER.  A newly forming community center for Montgomery County located at 717 W. Marshall Street in Norristown.  The center is the undertaking of a group of committed individuals who determined Montgomery County needed an LGBTQ center on the order of Philly’s William Way.  The goal of such a center would be to serve as a local resource for Montgomery County’s LGBTQ population and their allies.

The process began last year with the forming of a steering committee whose desire and goal was the manifestation of a LGBTQ center.  The results so far have been a location for the center on W. Marshall Street, the development of bylaws necessary to apply for 501(c) (3) legal status (currently awaiting approval), and the seeking of community feedback on initial projects and goals.  A meet and greet was held in December at the Marshal Street location to introduce the center to the local community and to raise awareness and support.  Programming is expected to begin sometime this March.  The LGBTQMUNITY CENTER is a growing organization welcoming anyone who wishes to be involved and inviting their participation.

It is rare that we have an occasion to support the initial development of a Sharing the Plate recipient however, we do have such an opportunity in this time.  Having a local LGBTQ center in Montgomery County is pretty exceptional. Please be as generous as possible in March.  The center is on the web at www.lgbtqmunity.org  and on Facebook.
