Tom’s Place Coffeehouse – Join us this Friday 4/11/08 – the band Saint Mad is featured
Come sing along with us and listen to very talented musicians this Friday, April 11. And if you would like to grace us with your talents, we encourage you to do something in the open stage portion of the evening. We welcome talents besides music, such as drama, dance, poetry and stand up comedy! Also, we’d love to see young people (tweens, teens and young adults) play a tune or two they are working on, on any instrument.
ABOUT OUR FEATURE: SAINT MAD brings a wealth of collective musical experience to their quirky brand of pop. Rich vocal textures, unusual harmonies, and compassionate, inspirational lyrics are hallmarks of their varied, crowd-pleasing repertoire – original songs, parodies and arrangements of familiar standards – everything from Sinatra to the Beatles.
Three members of the group, Martha Michael (vocals and trumpet), Molly Mahoney (vocals and keyboard) and Jim Harris (vocals, guitar and cello) met in the choir at St. Madeleine Sophie Church in Mt. Airy, where Molly was music director for eight years. In 2002, they began writing songs together and playing at various venues and charitable events in the Philadelphia area. In 2005, Lynda Chen joined the band, bringing her skills in vocals and euphonium into the mix.
Among their original compositions are parodies that they write specifically for the venues at which they play. Their songs, they say, “are generally about love, compassion, self discovery, and other Oprah-like subjects…”
